Arthur's Fish I

Arthur's Fish I was inspired by a photograph my nephew Arthur took of his day's catch of whiting.

Rather than recreating the photograph, I used it as a starting point for exploring colour, pattern and memory.

The fish are painted in layers of soft yellows, pinks and blues, transforming a familiar Queensland fishing scene into something playful, vibrant and full of life.

Growing up in Brisbane and spending countless holidays by the water, fish have become a recurring subject in my work. They remind me of family adventures, long summer days and the simple joy of gathering around a shared meal after a day outdoors.

Through bold colour and expressive mark-making, I try to capture not just what something looks like, but how it feels. Arthur's Fish I is a celebration of family, connection and the coastal lifestyle that continues to inspire my work.
